Mercy Speaks Out Against Pipeline Project
The State Department announced that it is going to continue reviewing the proposed Keystone
XL pipeline project to take into consideration environmental concerns expressed during
hearings, rallies and protests around the country.
Mercy was a critical part of the advocacy
movement, with more than 30 Sisters, co-workers and students from Georgian Court University
(in above photo) participating in encircling the White House on Nov.
6 to speak out against the
pipeline, which would carry dirty tar sands oil from Alberta, Canada, to Texas refineries.
Its
proposed route passes through Nebraska and Kansas, where other Sisters attended hearings
and rallies to express opposition to the project.
