In my
clinic at the Apollo
Children s Hospital,
Chennai, I frequently
come across diagnosed
and yet to be diagnosed patients with
asthma.
By definition, asthma is a recurrent,
reversible airway disease (meaning the breathing
passages get narrower) due to various trigger
factors such as viruses and bacterial infection,
allergies, stress and external environmental factors.
In children the diagnosis is often made after ruling
out common diseases like tuberculosis and other
chest conditions which might mimic asthma.
